The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has successfully concluded the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026, with 5.49 lakh candidates appearing for one of the country’s toughest competitive exams. According to UPSC, the examination was held at 2,072 venues across 83 cities, and about 67% of the 8.19 lakh candidates who had registered actually appeared on the exam day.
The prelims included the General Studies (GS) Paper 1 and the CSAT paper. Candidates and experts noted that while the paper covered conventional areas such as polity, history, geography, economy, environment and current affairs, a noticeable number of questions tested analytical thinking and administrative reasoning. The commission is expected to release the answer keys in due course, and has also reserved multiple dates in 2027 for upcoming recruitment tests and examinations.
For aspirants, the focus now shifts to the Mains stage for those expecting to clear the prelims cut-off. Candidates should begin Mains-oriented preparation, including answer writing practice and optional subject revision, while tracking official UPSC announcements for the result and the next stages.
