March 13, 2024, New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has submitted a proposal for the establishment of 14 new medical colleges in the state, which would add 1,400 MBBS seats for the academic year 2024-25. This initiative, aimed at enhancing medical education in UP, has been communicated by the Department of Medical Education through social media.
The state administration has forwarded the application to the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking approval for the expansion of medical colleges and MBBS seats. Once approved by the NMC, these additional seats will augment the existing 8,000 MBBS seats in the state, subject to physical verification of the campuses.
The proposed medical colleges will be set up in districts like Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur, Kaushambi, and others across the state. The medical education department has also begun the process of appointing faculty members, including principals, for the new colleges.
In a similar effort last year, the medical education department increased the MBBS seats by 1,300 and inaugurated 13 new medical colleges in the state. These initiatives are part of the state government’s commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure and medical education facilities.
