Counting for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) elections is underway with a tight race between Left Unity and ABVP. After counting 4,340 votes, Left Unity's Aditi Mishra leads the presidential race with 1,375 votes, followed by ABVP's Vikas Patel with 1,192. For vice-president, Left Unity's K Gopika Babu leads with 2,146 votes against ABVP's Tanya Kumari's 1,437. In the general secretary contest, ABVP's Rajeshwar Kant Dubey (1,496 votes) is narrowly ahead of Left Unity's Sunil Yadav (1,367). The joint secretary race remains close with ABVP's Anuj Damara (1,494) slightly ahead of Left's Danish Ali (1,447). About 1,500 votes remain to be counted with final results expected on 26/09/2024. The polls held on Tuesday saw 67% voter turnout. ABVP has already claimed victory in 14 of 26 declared councillor seats. Students can check final results on the university website later tonight. Left Unity and ABVP in Tight Race for JNUSU Positions

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) elections are showing a close contest between Left Unity and ABVP candidates. With over 4,300 votes counted, Left Unity's Aditi Mishra leads the presidential race with 1,375 votes, ahead of ABVP's Vikas Patel who has 1,192 votes. For vice-president, Left Unity's K Gopika Babu has a stronger lead with 2,146 votes against ABVP's Tanya Kumari's 1,437. The competition is reversed in other positions, with ABVP candidates narrowly leading in both general secretary and joint secretary contests.

Final Results Expected Soon as Counting Continues

About 1,500 votes still remain to be counted in the JNUSU elections that saw a 67% voter turnout. The tight race makes these remaining votes crucial in determining the final outcome. ABVP has already claimed victory in 14 of the 26 councillor seats that have been declared so far. Students can check the complete results on the university website once counting concludes. The close margins in all four central panel positions highlight the competitive nature of student politics at JNU, with neither alliance holding a clear advantage across all positions.
