Hybrid Classes for Delhi-NCR Students as Air Quality WorsensNewsIMTS

Hybrid mode for up to class 5 in Delhi-NCR schools as pollution curbs tighten. The Directorate of Education, Delhi has ordered all schools to conduct classes in both physical and online formats for students up to Class 5 with immediate effect. The decision follows deteriorating air quality in the capital, which remains in the 'very poor' category. The directive applies to all government, government-aided, and private schools under DoE, NDMC, MCD and Delhi Cantonment Board. To combat pollution, MCD has deployed anti-smog guns and mechanical sweepers while increasing penalties for violators. The Delhi government has extended the Ujjwala Yojana to slum clusters and ordered a survey to identify families using polluting cooking methods. (Updated 11 Nov 2025, 14:16 IST; source: link)

Delhi Schools Switch to Hybrid Classes Due to Air Pollution

The Directorate of Education in Delhi has ordered all schools to implement hybrid classes for students up to Class 5 as air quality worsens. This means children can attend either in-person or online classes. The decision comes as Delhi's air quality remains in the 'very poor' category, posing health risks especially to young children. The order applies to all types of schools including government, government-aided, private, and those under municipal bodies. School authorities must now prepare to conduct lessons in both formats to ensure learning continues while protecting students from harmful air pollution.

Government Takes Steps to Combat Worsening Air Quality

Besides shifting to hybrid classes, Delhi authorities have launched several measures to fight the dangerous air pollution levels. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has deployed anti-smog guns that spray water droplets to settle dust particles in the air. Mechanical road sweepers are being used more frequently to reduce road dust. Officials have also increased fines for those violating anti-pollution rules. Additionally, the government has extended the Ujjwala Yojana to slum areas, providing clean cooking fuel to reduce smoke from traditional cooking methods. A survey is underway to identify families still using polluting cooking fuels so they can be helped to switch to cleaner alternatives.
