In a significant procedural concession that brings relief to thousands of JEE Advanced 2026 qualifiers affected by the CBSE OSM evaluation controversy, IIT Roorkee confirmed on June 6, 2026 that students who currently fall below the mandatory 75 percent Class 12 eligibility threshold for IIT and NIT admissions will be permitted to register for JoSAA counselling, fill programme choices, and even receive conditional seat allotment — while their final admission remains subject to meeting the eligibility requirement before the final reporting date.
This is a procedural accommodation, not a relaxation of the eligibility rule itself. The 75 percent requirement has NOT been waived.

What This Means for Students
As per IIT Roorkee’s clarification on June 6, 2026:
- Students from General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories who currently score below 75 percent in Class 12 can still participate in JoSAA choice filling and receive a conditional seat allotment
- Students from SC, ST, and PwD categories who currently score below 65 percent in Class 12 can also participate conditionally
- Seat allotment will happen based on JEE Advanced rank as usual
- However, final admission will only be confirmed once the candidate’s Class 12 marks meet the eligibility threshold — either through the original result, re-evaluation outcome, or supplementary exam performance
Why This Matters
This accommodation is specifically designed for students whose Class 12 marks may have been incorrectly evaluated under CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and who are currently waiting for re-evaluation results. It ensures they do not lose their JoSAA seat allocation while their CBSE grievance is being processed.
