The University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Ministry of Education issued Letters of Approval (LoAs) to three globally reputed foreign universities on June 10, 2026 — the University of Bristol, University of York, and the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) — authorising them to establish campuses in India. The letters were handed over by UGC Chairman and Department of Higher Education Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This brings the total number of foreign universities with formal UGC campus approvals in India to five, with the earlier two being the University of Southampton and the University of Liverpool.
With today’s approvals, UGC has issued a total of 15 Letters of Intent to globally reputed foreign higher education institutions from the UK, US, Australia, and Italy seeking to establish campuses across India.
