In a big and exciting move for school students across the country, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has officially launched the IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 programme. This new initiative has been started by IIT Bombay’s Entrepreneurship Cell, popularly known as E-Cell. The registration is now open for all schools in India and is completely free of cost.

This is a wonderful opportunity for young students to learn about entrepreneurship, business thinking, and innovation — not just from textbooks, but through real-world activities and challenges.

What Is IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27?

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay’s Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) has launched a national school engagement initiative, NEC Junior 2026-27, designed to introduce students to entrepreneurship, innovation, and creative problem-solving. The programme registration is open to schools across India and targets students from Classes 6 to 12.

NEC stands for National Entrepreneurship Challenge. While the original NEC programme was designed for college students, the NEC Junior version has been specially created for younger students at the school level. The NEC Junior is created with the idea of developing entrepreneurship from the grassroots. The goal is simple — to plant the seeds of creative thinking and startup culture in children from a young age, so that tomorrow’s India has more job creators than job seekers.

What Will Schools Get to Do?

Through the IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 programme, participating schools establish entrepreneurship clubs for students, allowing them to engage in structured activities, innovation challenges, workshops, and project-based learning throughout the academic year.

This means that once a school registers for the IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 programme, the students will not just sit and listen to lectures. They will actually take part in hands-on activities, think of new ideas, work in teams, and solve problems just like real entrepreneurs do. The initiative aims to offer students practical exposure beyond classroom education by encouraging them to identify real-world challenges and develop problem-solving skills. Also, the participating schools will receive guidance and support to run entrepreneurship-focused activities.

What Skills Will Students Learn?

The IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 programme focuses on some of the most important skills that students need in today’s world. “The programme has been designed to help students develop an entrepreneurial mindset while strengthening essential skills such as creativity, leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. By combining experiential learning with mentorship and innovation-focused activities, NEC Junior seeks to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the future,” IIT Bombay said in its press release.

These are skills that no textbook alone can teach. By joining this programme, school students will be one big step ahead when they enter college or the job market.

Why Is This Programme Important?

India is a country with millions of young people who have great ideas but do not always know how to turn those ideas into reality. The IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 programme is trying to change that. The thought is to inculcate a ‘start-up culture’ in children from a young age.

The bigger NEC programme for college students has already shown remarkable results. In the National Entrepreneurship Challenge 2024-25, the initiative witnessed an overwhelming response with over 4,500 registrations, reflecting its growing influence and relevance among students and institutions nationwide. Now, by bringing the same energy to schools through NEC Junior, IIT Bombay is trying to reach young minds even earlier.

To date, NEC has facilitated the establishment of over 450 active E-Cells, many of which continue to thrive and inspire new ventures on their campuses. The NEC Junior programme hopes to do the same for schools all over India.

How Can Schools Register?

The registration process for the IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 is very easy and, most importantly, it is free. Schools interested in learning more about the initiative can visit the official website ecell.in/necjunior or can register for the programme for free at ecell.in/necjunior/register.

Schools from all parts of India — cities, towns, and even smaller places — can register and take part. There is no registration fee, so cost is no barrier for any school that wants to give its students this incredible learning experience.

A Step Towards a Better Future

The IIT Bombay NEC Junior 2026-27 programme is more than just a school activity. It is a movement to change the way young Indians think about their future. By learning to solve problems, work in teams, and think like entrepreneurs, students from Classes 6 to 12 will be better prepared not only for higher education but for life itself.

All schools across India are encouraged to register today and give their students the gift of entrepreneurial thinking — powered by one of India’s greatest institutions, IIT Bombay.
