NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is publishing the OMR Answer Sheets and Recorded Responses of the candidates along with the Provisional Answer Keys of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Re-Exam 2026 (NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam) on the official website neet.nta.nic.in. With over 22 lakh medical aspirants eagerly awaiting their results, the release of the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key is one of the most anticipated events in India’s medical admissions calendar this year.

Background: Why Was a Re-Exam Conducted?

The exam, held on 3 May 2026 for over 2.27 million aspirants seeking admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses, was cancelled on 12 May 2026 following investigations that revealed significant overlaps between a pre-circulated guess paper and the actual question paper, and led to the arrest of several people, including insiders from the NTA.

The NEET UG 2026 paper leak allegations came to light after the recovery of a paper containing more than 300 questions, of which 140 were reportedly matching the actual NEET UG 2026 paper. Reports suggest that some question sets were allegedly sold to students for up to Rs. 5 lakh before the exam. The case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough probe.

NTA officially confirmed the Re-NEET 2026 exam date as June 21, 2026, with the approval of the Government of India. The exam will be held in offline pen-and-paper mode from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM (IST). As per NTA, over 22.79 lakh MBBS aspirants appeared for the re-examination across 551 cities in India and 14 abroad at 5,440 centres.

When Will the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key Be Released?

NTA has not announced the official Re-NEET 2026 answer key release date yet. However, based on the May 3, 2026 exam — for which the answer key was released three days after the exam — the Re-NEET 2026 provisional answer key is expected to be out on June 24, 2026. Education platforms and media reports suggest it could be released any time between June 24 and June 27, 2026. Candidates are advised to keep refreshing the official portal at neet.nta.nic.in for the latest updates.

How to Download the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key

Once the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key is live, candidates can follow these steps to access it:

  1. Visit the official NTA NEET website at neet.nta.nic.in
  2. Click on the ‘NEET UG 2026 Answer Key’ link on the homepage
  3. Log in using your Application Number and Password or Date of Birth
  4. The provisional answer key will appear on the screen
  5. Download the answer key PDF and save it for future reference
  6. Match your responses against the key using the official marking scheme

Along with the provisional key, NTA also provides the response sheet and question paper. After examining the challenges submitted by candidates, subject experts review the objections and make necessary corrections.

How to Calculate Your Expected NEET Score

To calculate their score, candidates should compare their responses with the official NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key and apply the NEET marking scheme: add 4 marks for each correct answer, deduct 1 mark for every incorrect response, and give 0 marks for unanswered questions. Use the formula: NEET Score = (Correct Answers × 4) – (Incorrect Answers × 1).

How to Challenge the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key

If candidates find any errors or discrepancies in the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key, they can raise objections within the stipulated challenge window. Here is how:

Visit the official NTA NEET website at neet.nta.nic.in, log in using the NEET 2026 Application Number and Password, click on the “Challenge Answer Key” or “Answer Key Objection” link on the candidate activity section, and select the specific test booklet or Re-NEET 2026 paper code (Code 50, 60, 70, or 80).

Candidates will be allowed to make an online challenge against the provisional answer key by paying a non-refundable processing fee of ₹200 per answer challenged, within a specified period as indicated in the Public Notice.

If the objection raised by the candidate is accepted, the challenged answer will be corrected and a revised NEET 2026 answer key with the correct answer will be released. The challenge fee paid by the candidate will also be refunded in such cases. However, if the objection is not accepted, the fee will not be returned.

What Happens After the Answer Key Challenge?

NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key finalised after the challenges, will be treated as final and will be displayed on the NTA website before the declaration of the result. Before publishing the NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Result, NTA will publish the NEET UG June 2026 Final Answer Key. Along with the result, NTA will also prepare and publish the Merit List and NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Toppers’ names, scores, and their All India Rank (AIR).

The Re-NEET 2026 was held on June 21, pushing the expected result date to late July 2026. Official scorecards are typically released within 4 to 6 weeks after the examination concludes. Qualifying cutoffs for the General category are projected to range between 144 and 164 marks. Counselling for 15% All India Quota and 85% State Quota will likely commence in the last week of August 2026.

The release of the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key is a pivotal step in the long and turbulent journey of this year’s medical admissions cycle. Candidates who appeared in the June 21 re-exam must stay alert, download the key promptly, and challenge any discrepancies within the deadline. Every mark matters in NEET, and a valid objection could change a student’s rank and destiny. Keep monitoring neet.nta.nic.in for official updates on the answer key, final result, and counselling schedule.
