AIIMS Bhubaneswar has secured the 10th position among the Top 10 Medical Colleges in India, according to the India Today-MDRA Best Medical Colleges Survey 2026. The institute has also been placed 2nd among the Top 5 Most Improved Medical Colleges in the country, marking a sharp rise from its 25th rank back in 2021. This latest recognition places AIIMS Bhubaneswar firmly among the country’s leading medical institutions, reflecting its growing strength in academics, infrastructure, and patient care.
What the Survey Evaluated
The India Today-MDRA survey, conducted in association with Marketing & Development Research Associates, assessed medical institutions across five key parameters:

- Intake Quality and Governance
- Academic Excellence
- Infrastructure and Living Experience
- Personality and Leadership Development
- Placement and Career Progression
AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s strong showing across these parameters contributed to its climb into the Top 10 Medical Colleges in India list this year.
A 15-Rank Jump in Five Years
What makes this achievement notable is the pace of improvement. AIIMS Bhubaneswar moved from 25th position in 2021 to 10th in 2026, a jump of 15 places within five years — one of the fastest improvements recorded among Indian medical institutes in this survey series. Institute leadership credited the rise to sustained investment in faculty development, research output, and clinical training infrastructure over the period. A felicitation programme was reportedly held on campus, attended by senior faculty and administrative leaders, to mark the milestone.
How This Compares to NIRF Rankings
It’s worth noting that this Top 10 Medical Colleges in India placement comes from a private media-research survey, separate from the official NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) rankings released by the government. Under NIRF 2025, AIIMS Bhubaneswar currently holds around the 14th position among medical colleges nationally, behind AIIMS Delhi and AIIMS Rishikesh. Students and parents evaluating medical colleges are advised to consider both survey-based and NIRF rankings together, since each uses different evaluation criteria and weightages.
For NEET aspirants targeting eastern India, AIIMS Bhubaneswar remains one of the preferred choices after AIIMS Delhi, known for its clinical exposure, modern infrastructure, and comparatively balanced academic environment. With this latest recognition, the institute is expected to see continued interest from medical aspirants during the upcoming NEET UG 2026 counselling rounds.
