Delhi Police high-level meeting on 20 July 2026 to review the law-and-order situation after clashes broke out between security personnel and protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) “Chalo Sansad” more than 10,000 protesters march toward Parliament in New Delhi.
Senior police officers attended the meeting to assess the progress of the investigation into the violence, examine security arrangements across the city, and decide on the next course of action, officials said, as quoted by PTI.
What Led to the Clashes
The march, led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, coincided with the first day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. Protesters had gathered overnight at Jantar Mantar and set out toward Parliament in the morning, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak issue. Delhi Police had not granted permission for the march and had imposed prohibitory orders in the area beforehand.
As the crowd pushed toward Parliament, police used tear gas shells and baton charges to disperse them. Over 100 police personnel were reported injured, and around 70 people were detained. An FIR has been registered in connection with the violence.
How the Standoff Was Resolved
CJP representatives later held talks with Union Minister JP Nadda, reiterating three core demands: Pradhan’s resignation, the release of detained activist Sonam Wangchuk, and financial support for the families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide. The CJP said no firm assurance was given during the meeting. Protesters were dispersed from Jantar Mantar later in the day.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike for over three weeks in support of the movement, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, which issued a health bulletin on his condition.
