According to the Ministry of Education, there is no proposal under consideration to establish a new IIM in Telangana. The Ministry explained that India already has 21 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) operating across different states, and these institutions have significantly expanded access to management education over the years. Based on the current assessment, the government has not identified the need for another IIM campus in Telangana.
The response effectively rules out the possibility of a new IIM in Hyderabad in the immediate future, despite periodic demands from various stakeholders and public representatives.
Impact on Management Aspirants in Telangana
The clarification means that students from Telangana aspiring to pursue management education at an IIM will continue to seek admission to existing campuses across India through the Common Admission Test (CAT) and other admission processes.
While the state does not currently have an IIM, students still have access to several reputed management institutions, central universities, and private business schools. Candidates can also apply to any of the existing IIMs based on their CAT scores and institute-specific admission criteria.
The Ministry’s statement does not affect the admission process for current IIMs, nor does it alter seat availability for the upcoming academic sessions. Instead, it simply confirms that no new IIM campus has been sanctioned for Telangana at this stage.
