In a major push toward regional youth empowerment, the Department of Skill Development in Uttarakhand has introduced a state-wide employment drive providing free skill training to unemployed youth and school dropouts. Under this government-backed initiative, state residents aged 15 to 45 years—including individuals with basic Class 10 or 12 qualifications—can enroll in 3 to 4 months of practical technical courses.

The government has initially targeted 7 priority districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Chamoli, and Tehri Garhwal, aiming to align local manpower capabilities directly with industry demands.

Target Districts and Key Eligibility Criteria

The primary goal of this free skill training scheme is to reintegrate out-of-school youth into the workforce while providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. The state government is placing special emphasis on underprivileged candidates, female applicants, and individuals seeking self-employment pathways in industrial sectors.

Eligible applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Age Limit: Candidates must be between 15 and 45 years of age at the time of application.

  • Residency Requirement: Applicants must be permanent residents of Uttarakhand holding valid state identity proof.

  • Educational Background: School dropouts, non-literates, and candidates with basic Class 10th or 12th certificates are eligible.

  • Priority Groups: Unemployed individuals residing across the 7 selected districts receive preference during batch allotment.

Course Structure and Practical Vocational Training Options

The curriculum under this skill development program is crafted around real-world industrial needs. Rather than focusing solely on theoretical knowledge, the 3 to 4-month vocational training modules prioritize hands-on practice, technical expertise, and soft skills needed for immediate workplace integration.

Courses are conducted across multiple emerging and traditional job roles:

  • Information Technology & Electronics: Basic hardware repair, software applications, and digital data entry operations.

  • Healthcare & Wellness: Assistant nursing tasks, beauty therapy, and community healthcare support.

  • Industrial & Agriculture Operations: Machine operations, modern agricultural techniques, and electrical maintenance.

  • Soft Skills & Placement Support: Specialized sessions covering workplace communication, interview preparation, and basic business management for self-employment seekers.

Registration Process and Official Portal Access

Candidates seeking to enroll in the free skill training scheme can complete their registration online through the official state portal. The portal allows applicants to choose their preferred course stream and designated training center within their district.

Steps for interested candidates:

  • Online Portal Registration: Visit the Uttarakhand Skill Development Society portal and navigate to the candidate registration tab.

  • Document Upload: Attach essential credentials including Aadhaar card, residence proof, and educational certificates.

  • Helpdesk Assistance: Applicants requiring guidance can dial the official toll-free hotline 1800-890-2414 for course selection and enrollment support.

By delivering targeted free skill training, Uttarakhand aims to reduce local unemployment rates and build a skilled workforce capable of driving regional economic growth.
