Galgotias University in Greater Noida hosted the 24th Youth Uttar Pradesh Basketball Championship 2026 from 22 to 28 July 2026, bringing together around 800 athletes from across the state for seven days of competition. The basketball championship was organised in association with the Uttar Pradesh Basketball Association and formed part of the university’s broader push to integrate sport with academic life.
Basketball Championship Tournament Format and Participation
The event featured 56 teams in total, comprising 33 boys’ teams and 23 girls’ teams, drawn from districts across Uttar Pradesh. Galgotias University provided training infrastructure, coaching support, and a structured competitive environment for the seven-day tournament, giving young players sustained match exposure against opponents from different regions and sporting institutions.
Officials said this kind of state-level exposure helps athletes sharpen their game ahead of higher-level competitions, and also gives coaches and selectors a chance to spot emerging talent for future state and national squads.
Results: Girls’ and Boys’ Championships
- In the girls’ category, Bulandshahr won the title, with Meerut finishing runner-up and Agra placing third. Deepika Chauhan of Agra was named Best Player, while Sadhana of Bulandshahr received the Emerging Player Award.
- In the boys’ category, Meerut claimed the trophy, Triple Tec finished runner-up, and Gautam Buddh Nagar took third place. Tejas of Meerut was named Best Player, and Vedant Sidh of Gautam Buddh Nagar received the Emerging Player Award.
The results capped a competitive week that saw teams from major districts compete for top honours in both categories, with organisers noting the depth of talent on display across the draw.
University Leadership on the Event
Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University, said sport plays a key role in shaping discipline, resilience, teamwork, and responsibility among students, adding that the university aims to give learners access to facilities, coaching, and competitive exposure to build their abilities.
The closing ceremony of the basketball championship was attended by Uttar Pradesh Basketball Association office-bearers Dileep Singh, Honorary General Secretary, as Chief Guest, and R. S. Bedi, Vice-President, as Guest of Honour. Bedi commended the university for its well-maintained facilities and organised competitive environment, noting that tournaments of this scale give young athletes the sustained exposure needed to progress in the sport.
