NEW DELHI: The All India Students’ Union (AISU) has written to PM Modi, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the National Board of Examination (NBE) requesting to postpone NEET-MDS 2024 to July.
Originally scheduled for February 9, NEET-MDS was recently postponed to March 18. In contrast, NEET-PG 2024 was rescheduled 6 months in advance from March 3 to July 7. AISU says the short notice for NEET-MDS has hampered preparation and mental health of aspirants.
The internship cut-off is March 31 for MDS and August 15 for PG. Since MCC conducts common counselling, MDS admissions will only begin after PG internships end in August. This may force MDS students to wait idle for 6-7 months like in 2020.
AISU says failure to address this promptly could jeopardize 25,000+ NEET-MDS aspirants. 2018 batch BDS students also face potential ineligibility due to internships extending beyond March 31. While NMC surveyed PG internships, no initiative was taken by DCI for dental internships.
Given the issues, AISU has requested NEET-MDS be postponed to July to ensure fairness and uniformity. The letter urges urgent action from PM Modi, Health Ministry and NBE to resolve this crisis affecting thousands of dental aspirants.
