New Delhi, March 21, 2024: While engineering placements have been impacted by the global economic slowdown, the experience for undergraduate commerce and arts students varies across institutions.
Impact on Delhi University (DU) Colleges:
Delhi University’s top colleges are witnessing a decline in the number of recruiters and offers this year.
Hansraj College, for example, has seen fewer offers compared to last year, with a slight decrease in average and median salaries.
Across north-campus colleges like Hindu College and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), marquee recruiters have been missing, leading to a reduction in hiring numbers and average packages.
Placement Trends Outside Delhi:
Institutions outside the capital, like Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and Central University of South Bihar, have experienced growth in non-tech placements.
GNDU has seen interest from leading tech companies offering non-technical roles, particularly for BBA and BCom graduates.
Private Universities Experience:
Private universities report a mixed bag, with some facing challenges due to reduced job opportunities.
However, schools like NMIMS Bangalore have facilitated employment through internships, with a significant percentage of students opting for placements.
Factors Influencing Job Offers:
The market slump has led to reduced hiring across companies, impacting the number of roles offered per company.
Despite challenges, companies are still willing to recruit, and there’s hope for a rebound in placements by the end of the season.
