The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is expected to release the GATE 2026 scorecard on 27 March 2026. The GATE 2026 result was declared on 19 March. Now candidates can download their official scorecard which is valid for three years for MTech admissions and PSU recruitment.
The GATE scorecard is the essential document needed for MTech admission through both COAP and CCMT counselling portals. Several IITs have already started their MTech application process this week. IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT BHU, IIT Tirupati and IIT Dharwad are accepting applications.
Eligibility and Seat Availability
GATE is the primary entrance examination for postgraduate engineering admissions across India. Over 35,000 MTech seats are available in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Government-Funded Technical Institutions. Approximately 13,000 seats are reserved for IITs alone.
- Candidates with a GATE score of 900 and above have strong chances of securing admission in top IIT branches like Computer Science, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.
- The cut-off varies by institute, branch and category.
- Qualified GATE candidates are eligible for a monthly scholarship of ₹12,400 during their MTech programme at government institutes.

COAP Counselling for IIT Admissions
Candidates who have qualified GATE 2026 must register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for IIT admissions. COAP is the centralised portal through which IITs conduct their MTech counselling and seat allocation. Registration on COAP is mandatory for all IIT aspirants.
The COAP 2026 counselling dates have been announced. IIT Roorkee is conducting the COAP counselling this year. The counselling will be done in multiple rounds based on GATE scores, branch preference and seat availability.
CCMT Counselling for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs
For admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, candidates need to register on the Centralised Counselling for MTech (CCMT). The CCMT 2026 portal will open shortly after GATE scorecards are released. Approximately 22,000 seats are available through CCMT.
