IIT Delhi Leads 54 Indian Institutes in QS World Rankings 2026NewsIMTS

IIT Delhi leads Indian institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2026, securing 123rd place globally. India achieved a record performance with 54 institutions in the global list, making it the fourth most represented nation worldwide. IIT Bombay (129th), IIT Madras (180th), and IIT Kharagpur (215th) follow closely. PM Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan credited this success to government reforms, especially NEP this year. India's representation grew from 24 institutions in this year to 294 in 2026, becoming Asia's second-most represented nation. Seven Indian institutions are in Asia's top 100. In other news, the first International and 31st Annual Conference of Sahodaya School Complexes opened today in Dubai, bringing together over 1,000 school leaders from CBSE-affiliated institutions globally. IIT Delhi Leads India's Strong Showing in Global Rankings

IIT Delhi has secured the 123rd position globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026, making it the highest-ranked Indian institution. This achievement comes as India places a record 54 institutions in the rankings, establishing the country as the fourth most represented nation worldwide. Following IIT Delhi are other premier technical institutes – IIT Bombay at 129th position, IIT Madras at 180th, and IIT Kharagpur at 215th place. This performance reflects significant progress in India's higher education landscape, with the country's representation more than doubling from 24 institutions in 2016 to 54 in the latest rankings.

Government Reforms Credited for Educational Progress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have attributed India's improved performance in global university rankings to recent educational reforms, particularly the National Education Policy 2020. The rankings show India has become Asia's second-most represented nation in global education metrics. Seven Indian institutions now feature among Asia's top 100 universities, highlighting the growing quality of higher education in the country. This progress aligns with government initiatives to enhance research capabilities, improve teaching standards, and increase international collaboration at Indian universities. The consistent improvement in rankings suggests these policy changes are yielding positive results for India's academic institutions.
