On Monday, January 30, 2024 in New Delhi, India – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has signed an agreement with Lucknow Cantonment Board to collaborate on sustainability initiatives. The goal is to develop a waste-free, carbon-neutral cantonment. The pact was signed by IIT Kanpur’s research dean Tarun Gupta and Lucknow Cantonment Works Engineer Colonel Mayank Sundriyal. Under this, IIT Kanpur will support research projects, seminars, renewable energy adoption, and other eco-friendly practices to cut emissions in line with India’s net zero goal by 2070. IIT Kanpur Director S Ganesh said the institute is pioneering innovative sustainability solutions to tackle climate change. This partnership marks another step towards carbon neutrality. Colonel Sundriyal said it reflects the Cantonment Board’s commitment to adopt innovative solutions for sustainability. The agreement leverages IIT Kanpur’s expertise to formulate strategies to reduce carbon footprints and offset emissions.
