New Delhi, January 30, 2024: A 25-year-old Indian student, Vivek Saini, was viciously attacked and killed by a homeless drug addict in Lithonia, Georgia on January 16. The shocking incident was caught on video, showing the assailant, Julian Faulkner, mercilessly striking Saini nearly 50 times on the head with a hammer.
Saini, a part-time store clerk, had shown kindness to Faulkner over two days by providing food, drink and a jacket. However, when Saini requested on January 16 that Faulkner leave the store vicinity or face police, Faulkner turned violent. Arriving officers found Faulkner standing over Saini’s lifeless body.
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed deep anguish over the “terrifying, brutal and heinous incident.” They have been assisting Saini’s family with funeral arrangements and the return of his body to India.
Promising Student With Bright Future
Saini had moved to the US two years ago after earning his BTech degree in India. He recently completed his MBA as well, showing great promise as a student. His family described him as a brilliant young man striving for a good job.
His grieving parents in Haryana, Gurjeet Singh and Lalita Saini, are too devastated to speak about their immense loss. The homicide has cut short the life of an ambitious student who overcame challenges as an immigrant to excel in academics.
Authorities Condemn Attack, Accused Arrested
Authorities have condemned the brutal attack in the strongest terms. The accused, Julian Faulkner, has been arrested by US police, who are actively investigating the murder.
The Indian consulate also coordinated with Saini’s family to provide all possible consular support, including the difficult task of repatriating his body.
The unprovoked and ruthless killing of a promising young Indian student has left families on both sides of the world grief-stricken over this tragedy. Saini’s loved ones will deeply feel his absence as they mourn his untimely passing.
