JEE Main 2024 Jan 29 Exam Analysis: Shift 1 Paper Rated Easy

January 29, 2024: The JEE Main 2024 BE, BTech paper 1 held on January 29, 2024 (shift 1) was rated easy by students compared to previous exams.

The shift 1 exam was conducted from 9am to 12pm. Questions covered most chapters from the CBSE Class 11 and 12 syllabi with more weightage given to Class 12 physics topics.

The paper had 90 questions total – 30 each from physics, chemistry and math. It comprised multiple choice and numerical value questions carrying 300 marks overall.

Section-wise Analysis

Physics questions were easy to moderate. Key topics included zener diode, photoelectric effect, atomic structure, optics, galvanometer applications, atomic and nuclear physics.

The chemistry section was rated easy. Questions were asked from chapters like resonance, KMnO4, metallurgy, ozonolysis etc.

Math was moderately difficult. Questions tested integration, sequences/series, limits, differential equations, 3D vectors, probability.

Overall, students found the January 29 shift 1 paper easier than the January 27 exam and previous years’ papers.

The JEE Main 2024 shift 2 paper will be held from 3-6pm on the same day. The exams are being conducted in computer-based test mode by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Based on scores in the two sessions, students will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2024 and admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs among other institutes.


The JEE Mains 2024 exam on January 29 had two shifts. The morning shift (Shift 1) for BTech was easier than the previous day’s exam. It had questions from Class 11 and 12 CBSE topics. More emphasis was on Class 12 physics. The exam had 90 questions in physics, chemistry, and math, with 300 marks in total. Candidates had three hours to complete it. There were multiple-choice and numerical questions, with four marks for correct answers and one mark deduction for wrong ones. The difficulty levels for physics, chemistry, and math were easy to moderate, easy, and moderate, respectively.
