New Delhi, February 27, 2024: Expanding previous single-stream undergraduate engineering options, several IITs have introduced 5-year BTech-MTech, BS-MS, and integrated dual degree courses across multiple specializations now. Students can apply for these programs after qualifying for JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2024.
As per UGC’s new guidelines issued in 2022, aspirants enjoy the flexibility to pursue two full degree courses simultaneously post Class 12. This also encompasses seamless progression from bachelor to master accessed through dual degree channels.
Around 23 IITs offer BTech or BSc/BS degrees combined with integrated Master’s programs spanning five years currently. Some also provide for additionally obtaining a BTech (Hons)/Minor alongside. Few IITs facilitate BTechs cross-specializing into interdisciplinary MTech subjects through this route.
Key Available Choices:
BTech + MTech
BTech/MTech + Minor
BTech + MBA
BS + MS
5-year Integrated MTech
5-year Integrated MSc
The BTech and BS courses focus on core engineering and science domains in the initial years. Advance specializations get introduced during the final two years via tailored MTech/MSc combinations or standalone.
By clearing both JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2024 followed by JoSAA counseling participation, students can select their preferred IIT and dual degree courses as per program availability, seats, and personal interests.
This flexible framework exposes young talent to expanded horizons aiding multifaceted development. Transitioning between technical disciplines also becomes easier through the unified structure. Students are encouraged to make informed selections aligning with academic strengths and career goals.
