The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026 will officially open its registration and choice-filling portal from June 2, 2026, at josaa.nic.in, the day after the JEE Advanced 2026 result is declared. JoSAA manages engineering admissions across 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, 1 IIEST Shibpur, and 33 GFTIs — India’s most prestigious centrally-funded technical institutions — with over 59,000 seats available this admission cycle.
Who Can Participate in JoSAA 2026
- Candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced 2026 (for IIT admission)
- Candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2026 (for NIT, IIIT, GFTI admission)
- Candidates must also meet the Class 12 eligibility: minimum 75 percent aggregate (65 percent for SC/ST/PwD)
JoSAA 2026 Process Step by Step
- Step 1: Online registration at josaa.nic.in — begins June 2, 2026
- Step 2: Choice filling — select preferred institute, branch, and programme
- Step 3: Mock seat allocation rounds (2 rounds)
- Step 4: Six official seat allotment rounds
- Step 5: Online reporting, document verification, and seat acceptance fee payment
- Registration fee: Free — no charge for JoSAA registration
A JoSAA Special Round will also be conducted alongside DASA Counselling 2026 for foreign nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and CIWG category candidates seeking admission to IITs and NITs.
Candidates are strongly advised to research IIT campus environments, hostel facilities, faculty quality, and placement track records for each campus before locking choices, as the JoSAA system does not allow changing the preference order once the seat allotment round begins. Students who did not qualify JEE Advanced can still access NIT, IIIT, and GFTI admissions using their JEE Main 2026 score through the same JoSAA portal.
