NMC Reduces MBBS Seats for 2025 Counselling

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has decreased the number of MBBS seats by 50 for the upcoming NEET UG Counselling 2025. This adjustment brings the total MBBS and BDS seats to 1,28,875, down from the previous 1,28,925. The reduction happened on May 15, 2023, as part of the commission's regular seat allocation review process. During the renewal assessment, the NMC identified the need to reduce 456 seats across various medical colleges in India. This change will affect students planning to appear for NEET UG exams who aim to secure admission to medical colleges for the 2025-26 academic year.

New Seats Added Despite Overall Reduction

Despite the overall reduction, the NMC has added 11,350 new MBBS seats for the 2025-26 academic year. These additions exclude seats from prestigious institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER, which have separate admission processes. The commission also addressed some typographical errors in their previous announcements regarding seat counts at specific institutions. Corrections were made for the Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Gujarat and the Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences. These adjustments are part of the NMC's efforts to maintain quality standards in medical education while expanding capacity where infrastructure permits.
