JII’s focus will be furthering national goals for India’s 2047 centenary of independence. It aims to develop a roadmap for India to be a global leader in the 21st century through long-term research and strategy.
Research Areas
JII will conduct studies on India’s democracy, economy, society, culture, science, entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, environment, foreign policy and more.
Research will come from JGU’s existing 1,200+ faculty as JII Fellows. Foreign scholars will also be brought in as Global India Visiting Fellows.
JGU stated that so far only foreign universities have established India-focused institutes. This makes JII the first Indian university-led effort to comprehensively highlight India’s achievements globally.
Institute Leadership
JII will be led by JGU Vice Chancellor C. Raj Kumar as President and JGU Dean Sreeram Chaulia as Director General.
Prof. Kumar said only an independent university like JGU can objectively promote India’s image worldwide. He stated Indian universities must uphold India’s aspirations to build a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 through knowledge creation.
Key Objectives
- JII aims to decolonize the depiction of India and spread awareness of its 21st century accomplishments globally.
- It will work towards national goals for India’s 2047 independence centenary like ‘Viksit Bharat’.
- JII plans to develop a strategic roadmap for India as a global leader in the 21st century.
