The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) 2026 application window is currently open for children and widows of ex-servicemen of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and state police forces killed or disabled in action. The scholarship is administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in.
Scholarship Amount Under PMSS 2026
- Girls: Rs 3,000 per month (Rs 36,000 per year)
- Boys: Rs 2,500 per month (Rs 30,000 per year)
- Duration: Up to 5 years depending on the course pursued
Who Is Eligible
- Children and widows of ex-servicemen from CAPFs, RPF, or state police killed in line of duty or with disability
- Students must be pursuing first professional degree programmes such as MBBS, BDS, BE, B.Tech, BBA, BCA, B.Pharma, B.Nursing, and similar
- Minimum 60 percent marks in the qualifying examination (Class 12 or graduation)
- Annual family income should not exceed Rs 6 lakh from all sources

Students from defence and police backgrounds who qualify this scholarship can significantly reduce the financial burden of professional degree education. The scholarship is directly transferred to student bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Students must renew their scholarship every year by submitting their progress certificate and academic result.
