Getting AIIMS Nursing admission requires clearing a dedicated national-level entrance exam conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi, followed by merit-based online counselling. The BSc (Hons.) Nursing programme is offered across 19 AIIMS campuses, with roughly 1,366 seats available nationwide each admission cycle.
Since AIIMS conducts its own exam rather than accepting NEET scores for this course, aspirants need to prepare and register separately through the official AIIMS exams portal.
Eligibility Criteria
BSc (Hons.) Nursing at AIIMS is open only to female candidates; male applicants are eligible solely for the two-year Post-Basic BSc Nursing programme, provided they hold a valid GNM diploma and are registered with a State Nursing Council. For the Hons. course, candidates must:
- Be Indian citizens, at least 17 years old as of 31 December of the admission year (no upper age limit)
- Have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English
- Score a minimum of 55% aggregate for General/OBC(NCL)/EWS candidates, or 50% for SC/ST candidates
Candidates awaiting Class 12 results can also apply, provided they submit proof of passing with the required marks before seat allocation.
The Entrance Exam
The AIIMS Nursing admission process begins with a computer-based test (CBT) built on the NCERT Class 11 and 12 syllabus. Key features include:
- 100 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 2 hours
- Negative marking of -⅓ for each incorrect answer
- Application fee of around Rs 2,000 for General/OBC candidates and Rs 1,600 for SC/ST/EWS candidates
AIIMS Nursing admission registration is completed in two stages — Basic Registration (PAAR), followed by Final Registration with document upload and fee payment. Once submitted, edits are generally not permitted, so candidates should fill every field carefully against their original certificates.
Merit List and Qualifying Marks
After the result is declared, only candidates who clear the category-wise qualifying cutoff are included in the merit list. This is typically 50% for General/EWS, 45% for OBC(NCL), and 40% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates, out of the 100-mark test. Clearing this cutoff is separate from the 10+2 eligibility percentage and determines who advances to counselling.
Counselling and Seat Allotment
Once the merit list is out, AIIMS Nursing admission proceeds through online counselling, typically run across two rounds of seat allocation followed by a final open round and a spot round for any seats left vacant. Seats are allotted strictly by merit and category order — General, EWS, OBC(NCL), SC, then ST.
