COMEDK vacant engineering seats Karnataka: As engineering admissions move through the final stages of the COMEDK UGET 2026 counselling process, a total of 16,855 engineering seats remained vacant after the Round 4 seat allotment results, according to the latest seat matrix data released by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK).

The vacancy figures are spread across hundreds of course offerings at private engineering institutions participating in Karnataka’s admission process.

Branch-Wise Breakdown of Vacant Seats

The data shows that the largest share of unfilled seats is concentrated in both conventional engineering branches and newer computing specialisations.

Notably, CSE vacancies are not confined to newer or niche programmes — the standard CSE course alone accounts for more than 4,400 seats still vacant across the institutions listed. The dataset records 147 separate college-course entries under the CSE code, with individual vacancies ranging from a handful of seats to over 100 at some institutions.

Bapuji Institute, Davangere, Tops the List

Among individual CSE programmes, Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology, Davangere, recorded the highest number of vacant CSE seats at 121.

Other institutions with notable CSE vacancies include Ballari Institute of Technology and Management (71), and Alvas Institute of Engineering and Technology and BMS College of Engineering, each with 69 vacant seats.

In contrast, some institutions recorded very few vacant CSE seats — MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology had just 5, Siddaganga Institute of Technology had 4, and CMR Institute of Technology had only 3. At Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance University, the CSE programme recorded zero vacant seats.

Bengaluru Leads, But Vacancies Spread Statewide

Bengaluru remains the largest concentration of vacant engineering seats overall, reflecting the high number of participating institutions located in and around the city. However, sizeable vacancy pools were also visible in other engineering hubs, including Mangaluru, Belagavi, Tumakuru, and Mysuru.

Mangaluru alone accounted for 1,311 vacant seats (across all courses), while Belagavi recorded 1,111. At the institution level, Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering had 67 vacant CSE seats, while Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management had 68.

Vacancies Span Multiple Specialisations Simultaneously

The spread of vacancies extends well beyond CSE and electronics, covering AI/ML, mechanical, civil, information science, electrical and electronics, data science, and cybersecurity programmes. At some institutions, multiple branches showed substantial vacancies at once — for instance, Ballari Institute of Technology and Management recorded 72 vacant AI/ML seats, 71 CSE seats, and 72 ECE seats simultaneously.

Important Context on These Numbers

These figures represent the Round 4 decision-making vacancy position, not the final count of seats that will remain unfilled once students physically report to their colleges. COMEDK published the Round 4 engineering allotment result on September 1, with decision-making and fee payment initially scheduled until September 3, while college reporting for allotted candidates continued until September 8.
