WBCHSE HS Semester 3 exam postponed: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has postponed three papers of the Higher Secondary (Class 12) Semester III examinations by one week. The papers originally scheduled for October 5, 6, and 7 will now be conducted on October 12, 13, and 14, respectively, as per a notification issued by the council on September 10.

Why the Exams Were Postponed?

The postponement comes after by-elections were announced in two West Bengal Assembly constituencies — Nandigram and Rejinagar — with polling scheduled for October 6. According to the council, the revision was necessary due to the logistical and administrative requirements arising from the bypolls. Rescheduling these specific papers was intended to avoid a clash between examination-related arrangements and the polling process, allowing students to appear for their exams without disruption.

What This Means for Students?

The October 5 papers — covering Mathematics, Business Mathematics and Business Statistics, Basic Mathematics for Social Sciences, Agriculture, Journalism and Mass Communication, Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic — have now moved to October 12.

The October 6 papers, covering subjects such as Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Sociology, and Fisheries and Aquaculture, will now be held on October 13.

Papers originally scheduled for October 7 — Biological Science, Political Science, and Costing and Taxation — will now be conducted on October 14.

As a result, students appearing for these specific papers will get an additional week to prepare compared to the earlier timetable.

Exam Timing Remains Unchanged

While the dates for these three papers have shifted, the examination duration and timing remain the same. All three papers will continue to be held from 11 am to 12:30 pm, exactly as per the original schedule.

This Is a Partial Revision, Not a Full Reschedule

The council has clarified that this change is a partial revision of the Semester III examination timetable. Candidates are advised to refer to the revised notification specifically for the affected papers, rather than assuming that the entire Higher Secondary examination schedule has been changed. All other aspects of the Semester III schedule remain exactly as notified earlier.

What Students Should Do Now?

• Note down the new dates for the specific papers affected — October 12, 13, and 14
• Continue to follow the original timetable for all other papers not mentioned in this revision
• Use the extra week for the affected subjects to strengthen preparation, particularly for technical subjects like AI, Data Science, and Cyber Security
