New Delhi, January 30, 2024: A 14-year-old Class 8 student sustained severe injuries after being attacked by a classmate with a sharp object inside their classroom at a Sangli, Maharashtra school. The assault occurred on Monday evening and preliminary investigations indicate it resulted from a past dispute between the two boys.
According to Sanjay More, Inspector at Sangli City Police Station, the victim stays at 100 Feet Road in Sangli. He and the accused, both students of the same school, have had frequent arguments over trivial matters, including one just two days back.
Sharp Weapon Used in Assault
On January 30, the accused came to school carrying a sharp object, likely a small knife, in his school bag. At around 5:30 pm inside the classroom, he allegedly used this weapon to attack his classmate who was sitting on a bench, grievously injuring the boy’s neck and hands.
The school staff rushed the wounded student to a private hospital for immediate treatment. He received multiple stitches and is currently undergoing additional care with his condition stated to be stable.
Accused Classmate Detained
Authorities have detained the 15-year-old accused attacker. An FIR has been registered under multiple Indian Penal Code sections, including an attempt to murder charge.
Inspector More said further investigations are underway into the classroom assault arising from the past animosity between the two Class 8 students. The unprovoked attack with a potentially deadly weapon has left the victim hospitalized with significant injuries.
