The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has introduced a new test called the National Exit Test (NExT). This test will now be taken by all medical students who study ancient Indian medical systems like Ayurveda and Unani.
The NExT will have questions to check how much students know about treating patients. It will also test their knowledge of medical ethics and laws. Passing this exit exam is compulsory before students can start working as doctors after their internship.
The test will be held twice a year – in February and August. Only those who have finished their medical degree and a one year internship can take the NExT. Indian students as well as foreign students who studied Indian medicine in India need to pass this test.
The NExT aims to ensure all Indian medical practitioners meet a common standard before they start practicing medicine.
