The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has criticized the Sree Chithira Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE) in Thiruvananthpuram for ignoring its previous orders of refunding the admission fee to the applicant. The organization has noted the non-execution of a government order via a government run-institution.
In a recent order, Antony Dominic, chairman of the commission commanded the engineering college to refund all the admission fee that the student paid at the time of admission. The order was referred by the petition released by Bibin Mathew, a native of Mylapra in Pathanamthitta.
In the previous academic session, the complainant got admission into SCTCE college and paid an amount of INR 52,758 as the admission fee but later he joined another engineering college via spot round admissions but SCTCE denied for paying the refund of the admission fee to the complainant. However, the SCTCE only refunded the casual deposit made by the applicant in the college’s favor.
According to the government’s notification G.O. (RT) No.849/2022, dated June 7, 2022, the complainant is eligible to get all the admission amount back from the institution but in return to this, the college administration posted a decision on July 23, 2022, for not paying the refund back to such students.
However, the commission has convinced that the applicant must get all the refund amount back from the institution.
