CLAT 2027: The baseline schedule for entering India’s most competitive legal education space has taken clear shape. Confirming structural details for the upcoming intake cycle, the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) will open the online registration window for CLAT 2027 on August 1, 2026. Prospective undergraduate and postgraduate law candidates can access the unified application dashboard via the official central domain: consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

This comprehensive national-level screening serves as the exclusive entry gateway for securing a seat across 26 participating National Law Universities alongside IIULER Goa, distributing more than 3,000 highly coveted undergraduate slots. Following standard scheduling trends, the offline paper-and-pen examination for CLAT 2027 is tentatively scheduled for December 6, 2026 (Sunday), spanning a single afternoon session from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Important Timelines for the Admission Year

To ensure absolute procedural compliance, law aspirants should closely monitor the foundational dates governing the current application cycle:

Administrative Event Important Milestones (Tentative / Confirmed)
Official Admission Notification Release Late July 2026
Online Application Form Live Date August 1, 2026
Closing of Online Registration Portal October 31, 2026
Admit Card Digital Issuance Third Week of November 2026
CLAT 2027 Examination Date December 6, 2026
Declaration of Merit Rankings Third Week of December 2026

Baseline Academic Eligibility Framework

Before initiating account generation on the institutional portal, candidates must satisfy the dual parameters of academic qualifications and minimum score cut-offs.

1. For the Five-Year Integrated Law Program (CLAT UG)

  • Educational Background: Applicants must have successfully cleared their Higher Secondary School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent evaluation from a recognized education board.

  • Minimum Marks Requirement: Candidates from General, OBC, PwD, NRI, OCI, and PIO classifications must possess at least 45% aggregate marks in their qualifying board exams. For candidates belonging to SC and ST categories, the minimum requirement is set at 40%.

  • Appearing Status: Students who are currently enrolled in Class 12 and scheduled to appear for their final board examinations in March/April 2027 are fully eligible to apply. However, their final onboarding is strictly contingent upon providing definitive passing certificates during the counseling phase.

  • Age Ceiling: Following long-standing regulatory policies, there is no upper age limit for taking the undergraduate entrance exam.

2. For the Master of Laws Postgraduate Track (CLAT PG)

  • Candidates must possess an LLB degree (3-year or 5-year format) from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).

One-Time Non-Refundable Processing Fees

The structure for registration fees remains strictly tied to the community category selected in the application form. Payments are accepted exclusively via standard digital avenues:

  • General, OBC, PwD, and NRI Applicants: ₹4,000

  • SC, ST, and BPL (Below Poverty Line) Applicants: ₹3,500

Decoding the Evaluation Pattern & Course Content

The undergraduate exam layout features a 120-minute passage-based structural layout containing 120 multiple-choice questions. The evaluation framework operates with a strict accuracy tracking parameter: every correct selection awards +1 mark, while an incorrect response results in a penalty deduction of 0.25 marks.

The course evaluation parameters are divided across five distinct core skill-testing modules:

1. Legal Reasoning (Approx. 25% Weightage)

Tests your capability to analyze complex factual situations and apply general principles of law or public policy guidelines to reach a logical conclusion.

2. Current Affairs & General Knowledge (Approx. 25% Weightage)

Features comprehension passages drawn from reliable journalistic records, focusing on international affairs, historical milestones, and legal developments.

3. English Language (Approx. 20% Weightage)

Focuses on reading comprehension passages (around 450 words each) designed to test vocabulary, textual inferences, and your ability to decipher arguments and central themes.

4. Logical Reasoning (Approx. 20% Weightage)

Evaluates your critical reasoning capacity to identify hidden assumptions, validate or break down structural arguments, and establish cause-and-effect patterns.

5. Quantitative Techniques (Approx. 10% Weightage)

Requires parsing short clusters of factual data, graphs, or numeric tables to apply basic mathematical operations, including ratios, basic percentages, and statistical averages up to a Class 10 difficulty level.

Steps to Complete the Online Application Process

When portal access officially opens, candidates are advised to process their profile tracking systematically:

  • Step 1: Head over to the primary portal directory located at consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

  • Step 2: Click on the dedicated registration banner to generate a fresh profile using an active mobile number and email ID.

  • Step 3: Authenticate your system access via the instant mobile One-Time Password (OTP).

  • Step 4: Log in to your profile and carefully fill out your personal information, local communication addresses, and academic marks.

  • Step 5: Upload clear scanned copies of your recent passport-sized photograph, signature, and category certificate (if applicable) following the precise digital file dimensions.

  • Step 6: Complete the process by submitting the application fee via the secure payment gateway. Save the confirmation page for your records.
