NEW DELHI, March 6, 2024: In compliance with a Delhi High Court order from November 10, 2023, the Delhi government has established a Child Safety Monitoring Committee to ensure the implementation of ‘Minimum Standards of School Safety’ across all schools in the national capital. The committee’s primary objective is to conduct inspections of classrooms, toilets, and other school facilities to guarantee a safe learning environment for students.
Delhi High Court Order:
The formation of the Child Safety Monitoring Committee is a direct result of the Delhi High Court’s directive to the city government to inspect schools and ensure that they adhere to minimum safety standards. The court’s order emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to student safety, encompassing various aspects of school infrastructure and facilities.
Minimum Standards of School Safety Checklist:
As per a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, school heads are required to fill out a comprehensive school safety checklist and keep it ready for the visiting inspection team. This checklist will serve as a guide for the committee to assess the current safety measures in place and identify areas that require improvement.
Responsibilities of Deputy Directors of Education:
To ensure the smooth execution of the inspection process, the Deputy Directors of Education (Districts) have been tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the concerned Deputy Director of Education (Zone) is present during school inspections within their jurisdiction. This measure aims to facilitate effective communication and coordination between the inspection team and school authorities.
