GDS Vacancy 2026: The Department of Posts has released vacancy details for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026 cycle, covering Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak posts. A total of 23,757 tentative vacancies have been announced across 23 postal circles. The vacancy annexure gives a combined circle-wise figure rather than a separate breakup for each of the three post types.

Category-Wise Vacancy Breakup
Out of the total 23,757 posts, the category-wise distribution is: Unreserved (UR) 10,640, OBC 4,433, SC 3,082, ST 2,773 and EWS 2,160. In addition, PwBD sub-categories account for 192 (PwD-A), 227 (PwD-B), 178 (PwD-C), and 72 (PwD-DE) posts. Reservation for OBC, SC and ST follows state-wise percentages; EWS is fixed at 10%, and PwBD sub-categories are reserved at 1% each of total vacancies.
Key Dates and Eligibility
Online One-Time GDS Vacancy 2026 Registration began on 31 August 2026, while the application and fee payment window runs from 2 September to 21 September 2026, up to 5 pm. A two-day edit window for corrections is scheduled for 23-24 September 2026. Applicants must have passed Class 10 with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognised board, studied the locally prescribed language up to Class 10, and be aged between 18 and 40 years as on the last date of application, with standard category-wise relaxation applicable.
Selection and Application Fee
There is no written exam for GDS Vacancy 2026; selection is based purely on a merit list generated from Class 10 marks or grades, followed by document verification. The application fee is ₹100, waived for female, SC, ST, PwBD, and trans women candidates. Applications must be submitted online only, through One-Time Registration followed by the detailed application form, with photograph and signature uploaded in the prescribed format.
