The Generation Google Scholarship is designed to help aspiring technologists excel in computer science and emerge as leaders in the industry. Awarded annually based on academic merit, leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the scholarship offers $2,500 USD (or local currency equivalent, e.g., approx. ₹2,10,000) to selected scholars.

1. Eligibility Criteria

While specific requirements vary slightly depending on your region (e.g., APAC, EMEA, North America, Ireland), general candidates must satisfy the following core conditions:

  • Academic Status: Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited university during the application cycle. You must intend to remain enrolled as a full-time student for the upcoming academic year.

  • Field of Study: Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline (such as Software Engineering, Data Science, or Information Systems).

  • Academic Record: Strong prior and ongoing academic performance.

  • Leadership & Diversity: A strong track record of leadership potential and active involvement in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within technology communities.

  • Region-Specific Guidelines:

    • APAC, EMEA, and Ireland: Exclusively open to female students pursuing technical degrees to support underrepresented genders in tech.

    • North America (US & Canada): Open to all students who meet the academic and leadership requirements.

2. Selection Process & Evaluation

Generation Google Scholarship Selection is holistic and relies on a thorough review of your written application rather than a coding contest.

Phase 1: Material Submission

Applicants must submit all materials through the official Google Build Your Future portal before the regional deadline or Generation Google Scholarship

  1. Resume / CV (PDF): Highlighting projects, technical skills, open-source work, work experience, and community involvement.

  2. Academic Transcripts: Current or most recent official/unofficial university grade sheets.

  3. Letters of Recommendation: Contact information or letters from professors, academic advisors, or technical supervisors.

  4. Short Answer Essays: Answers evaluating leadership experience, passion for technology, and efforts to make tech more inclusive.

Phase 2: Application Review

Applications are evaluated by a committee on four main pillars:

  • Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion: How effectively you support and advocate for underrepresented groups in computer science.

  • Leadership Potential: Demonstrated initiative, community work, or leadership in academic and extracurricular activities.

  • Academic Excellence: Consistency and performance in core technical coursework.

  • Essay Depth: Clarity, originality, and depth of your responses to the short-essay prompts.

Phase 3: Final Selection & Award

Shortlisted candidates are notified via email. Selected scholars receive the $2,500 USD grant directly toward tuition, books, supplies, and academic fees, along with opportunities to attend Google networking events and connect with a global peer network.
