Kanpur, February 29, 2024: Alumnus Dr. Rajeev Gautam has contributed USD 250,000 to his alma mater IIT Kanpur to institute three endowed programs for bolstering chemical engineering – faculty chair, young faculty fellowship, and student travel grants. A 1974 graduate himself, his gesture aims to give back and nurture future talent in this domain.
Through a tripartite agreement signed between Dr. Gautam, IIT Kanpur (IITK), and its Foundation, the endowed initiatives named after his father will enrich the institution’s academics, research, and global exposure opportunities.
Endowed Programs Introduced:
1. Om Prakash Gautam Faculty Chair
2. Rajeev & Joyce Gautam Faculty Fellowship
3. Rajeev & Joyce Gautam Student Travel Grant
Expressing pride in being able to promote excellence at IITK’s Department of Chemical Engineering which moulded his successful professional journey, Dr. Gautam hopes the next generation of researchers and leaders benefit similarly.
Having retired as President Emeritus from Honeywell, he has pioneered multiple innovations globally. IITK honored him with Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2020 recognizing this extensive impact.
The current Chemical Engineering Head Prof. Jayant K Singh and Director Prof S. Ganesh conveyed gratitude for his generous support during the MoU signing. By facilitating cutting-edge research along with young talent encouragement, the endowments reaffirm IIT Kanpur’s eminence and culture of innovation.
