MBBS Student Forced To Retract Fee ComplaintNewsIMTS

A Dalit MBBS aspirant from Gadchiroli has alleged that SSPM Medical College in Sindhudurg forced him to withdraw his complaint about excessive fees. The student claimed the college, run by BJP leader Narayan Rane, demanded Rs 9.2 lakh despite him being eligible for state fee concessions as an SC candidate. After complaining to Maharashtra CET Cell, the student was allegedly confined in the college office until he wrote a letter withdrawing his grievance. Two other students from NT-D and SEBC categories reported similar experiences. The college dean denied all allegations, stating hostel and mess services are optional. This isn't the first controversy for SSPM, which faced similar complaints in previous admission cycles. Last year, the Bombay High Court had to intervene in one case, ordering the college to accommodate a refused candidate in a supernumerary seat. (Updated 5 Nov 2025, 21:24 IST; source: link)

College Denies Allegations as Controversy Grows

The dean of the medical college has firmly denied all accusations, stating that hostel and mess services mentioned in the fee structure are optional for students. This is not the first time the institution has faced such allegations. In previous admission cycles, similar complaints were raised about fee-related issues. Last year, the situation escalated to the Bombay High Court, which had to intervene in one case. The court ordered the college to accommodate a student who had been refused admission by creating an additional seat. The current allegations have raised concerns about the implementation of fee concession policies for reserved category students.
