The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is set to announce the NEET UG counselling 2026 schedule shortly, with over 11.21 lakh MBBS aspirants awaiting details on registration and choice-filling dates. Alongside the schedule, MCC has rolled out a set of reforms aimed at cutting down physical visits and making the admission process smoother for candidates.
No Physical Reporting for Seat Upgrades
In one of the most significant changes this year, candidates who are allotted a medical college and opt for seat upgradation in later rounds will no longer have to report physically to their allotted institute. The MCC seat upgrade process will now be conducted entirely online, and candidates will only need to visit their college in person once they accept their final allotted seat.
Officials say the change is expected to reduce travel burden and confusion for students spread across the country during multi-round counselling, where candidates often had to shuttle between colleges just to confirm an upgraded allotment. State counselling authorities have already begun informing candidates of this shift ahead of the formal schedule release.
Online Resignation and NRI Quota Document Upload
MCC has also introduced an online resignation facility for candidates who wish to withdraw from an allotted seat. Previously, resignation required a visit to the counselling authority or institute; NEET UG counselling can now be completed directly through the MCC portal at mcc.nic.in.
Separately, candidates applying under the NRI quota for deemed universities can now upload their required documents online, instead of submitting them in person, easing the process for applicants and their families based outside India.
What the Counselling Process Will Cover
NEET UG counselling 2026 will handle admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical programmes under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), central and deemed universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, and ESIC institutions. The process is expected to run across four stages — Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-Up Round, and the Stray Vacancy Round.
Candidates will need to complete online registration, pay the counselling fee, and fill and lock their college and course preferences within the notified timeline. Seat allotment in each round will depend on the candidate’s NEET rank, category, reservation policy, choices submitted, and seat availability.
When to Expect the Schedule
As of 31 July 2026, the official NEET UG counselling schedule has not yet been published, though registration is widely expected to open in early August 2026. Aspirants are advised to rely only on the official MCC website for confirmed dates and to avoid unverified schedules circulating on messaging platforms, as counselling timelines can shift based on seat matrix updates and court directions closer to the process.
