The TN NEET Counselling 2026 process is currently underway at the official portal, tnmedicalselection.net, though the detailed Round 1 schedule for choice filling and seat allotment is yet to be announced by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu.
Registration for TN NEET Counselling opened on 29 June 2026 and was originally scheduled to close on 23 July 2026 at 5 PM. The Selection Committee later reopened the application window as a one-time measure from 26 July 2026, 10 AM to 27 July 2026, 3 PM, allowing candidates who had missed the original deadline to apply. Over 41,000 applications were received by the close of registration.
Why the Schedule Is Delayed This Year
This year’s counselling timeline follows the NEET UG 2026 re-exam, conducted on 21 June 2026 after the original exam scheduled for 3 May 2026 was cancelled following a paper leak. As a result, the Tamil Nadu counselling cycle has shifted later than usual, and the provisional rank list, which determines choice filling and seat allotment, has not yet been released.
What Happens Next
Candidates now await the following steps, which will be notified on the official portal once ready:
- Publication of the provisional rank list (category-wise, covering government quota, management quota, and the 7.5% government school reservation quota)
- Verification of rank list details and resolution of discrepancies
- Release of the seat matrix for government and private medical/dental colleges
- Commencement of online choice filling for Round 1
- Round 1 seat allotment result
The counselling is conducted for 85% state quota seats in government medical and dental colleges, along with 100% seats in private and self-financing institutions, across four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, and Stray Vacancy.
TN NEET Counselling Registration Fee and Security Deposit
As per the notified structure for this counselling cycle, candidates should keep the following in mind:
- Registration fee: Rs 500, non-refundable (SC, SCA, and ST candidates are exempt)
- Security deposit: Payable by demand draft in favour of “The Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai-10”
Candidates are advised to keep their payment receipt or DD acknowledgment safe, as it may be required during later stages of document verification.
