ULSAT application: The UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test (ULSAT) is a university-level entrance exam conducted by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, for its law programmes. These include the 5-year integrated BA LLB (Hons.), BBA LLB (Hons.), and B.Com LLB (Hons.) courses, along with the 3-year LLB and LLM programmes. UPES also accepts CLAT scores and Class 12 board merit for a portion of its seats, giving candidates more than one route into the same courses.
UPES conducts the ULSAT application process in computer-based, remote-proctored mode across multiple cycles through the year, rather than on a single fixed date. Candidates should confirm the current cycle’s dates directly at upes.ac.in before applying.
Eligibility Criteria
For the 5-year integrated LLB programmes, candidates need a minimum of 50% marks in Class 10 and Class 12. Those applying through the CLAT AIR or board-merit pathways are assessed on separate criteria, such as a specified CLAT rank cutoff or a minimum board aggregate, with English as one of the five main subjects. For the 3-year LLB, candidates must hold a graduate degree in any discipline. For the LLM programme, a minimum of 50% marks in an LLB degree or equivalent is required, along with 50% marks in Class 10 and 12. Up to 20% of seats are filled through Board Merit, CLAT AIR, or CUET, so eligible candidates may be exempted from writing the test.
ULSAT Exam Pattern
The test comprises 150 multiple-choice questions, to be completed within 2 hours, with no negative marking. It is held in English and typically covers legal aptitude, general knowledge, English language, and reasoning ability.

Fee and Documents Required
The ULSAT application fee is Rs 1,750 for both the 3-year and 5-year LLB programmes. Keep these documents ready beforehand: Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, a valid ID proof, a recent photograph, and a scanned signature. Candidates applying for the 3-year LLB will also need their graduation mark sheet and degree certificate.
After the Exam: Counselling Process
Candidates who qualify, or those selected through the CLAT or board-merit route, are called for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Original documents are verified at this stage before a seat is confirmed. Candidates should regularly check their registered email and the portal for counselling updates, as these are communicated directly by UPES rather than published on a fixed public calendar.
