The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the CBSE Supplementary Exam for Class 12 students on 28 July 2026. The compartment exam gives students placed in the Compartment category a second opportunity to clear subjects they could not pass in the regular Class 12 board examination held earlier this year.
CBSE Supplementary Exam 2026: Date and Shift Timings
The Class 12 supplementary exam will be conducted in a single day across different shifts depending on the subject. Major theory papers will be held from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, while shorter skill and elective papers are scheduled from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Specific vocational papers will run slightly longer, from 10:50 AM to 1:30 PM. Students are permitted to appear for the compartment exam in only one subject, and those looking to improve their score in an eligible subject can also use this opportunity.
Who Can Appear and Where
Regular students will appear for the CBSE Supplementary Exam at their respective schools, while private candidates will report to the examination centres allotted to them. Students must have their admit card ready, which CBSE has already released for the supplementary session. Candidates should confirm their reporting centre and shift timing in advance through their school or the allotted centre to avoid confusion on exam day.
Exam Day Guidelines Students Must Follow
Students appearing for the CBSE Supplementary Exam should reach their examination centre at least 30 to 45 minutes before the reporting time, since entry will not be permitted after this window closes. Carrying the CBSE-issued admit card is mandatory; students without it will not be allowed inside the examination hall. Question papers and answer booklets will be distributed 15 minutes before the exam begins, giving students time to read through the paper before writing starts. Electronic gadgets, including mobile phones and smartwatches, are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. To clear the compartment exam, students need to score at least 33 percent in the theory paper.
