The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) confirmed on June 5, 2026, that the first Mock Seat Allotment round will be released on June 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the official portal @josaa.nic.in. This mock round gives all registered candidates a critical preview of their likely seat allotment based on their current choice order. Candidates still have until June 11, 2026 at 5:00 PM to revise and lock their final preferences before actual Round 1 allotment on June 13.
With 67,323 engineering seats across 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and over 40 GFTIs at stake, and JoSAA counselling now entering its most critical phase, candidates must use the mock allotment result strategically.

How to Use Mock Allotment Results Wisely
- Review the predicted allotment and ask: Is this the best seat I can realistically get?
- If the mock shows a less preferred option: move better but realistic preferences higher in the list
- Check if female supernumerary seats at preferred institutes are underutilised in your choice list
- Candidates can still add new choices, reorder existing ones, or remove less preferred options until June 11
Post-Allotment Options
| Choice | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Freeze | Accept seat permanently, exit further rounds |
| Slide | Accept but try for a better branch at the same institute in Round 2 |
| Float | Accept but try for any better preference in Round 2 |
There is no risk in choosing Float or Slide — the current allotment remains protected unless a better seat is available in the next round.
