New Delhi, 8 April 2024: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized publication and distribution of its school textbooks and educational resources by unscrupulous publishers.
In an official advisory, NCERT has expressed concerns that a few publishers have been printing NCERT textbooks, available on the council’s website, under their names without obtaining the necessary copyright permission from NCERT.
Key highlights of NCERT’s advisory:
1. Copyright Infringement: NCERT has warned these publishers that their actions constitute copyright infringement under the Copyright Act of 1957. The council has threatened to take appropriate legal action against such publishers.
2. Caution to the Public: NCERT has cautioned the general public against purchasing these unauthorized, pirated textbooks or workbooks. The council warned that the content in these books may be factually incorrect and go against the basic philosophy of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.
3. Reporting Violations: NCERT has requested the public to immediately inform the council if they come across any such pirated textbooks or workbooks by emailing pd.ncert@nic.in.
4. Proposal for Using NCERT Name: NCERT has advised publishers who wish to use the NCERT name in their publications to send a proposal to the council’s Publication Division or email at secy.ncert@nic.in.
NCERT has highlighted its role as the country’s authorized repository of educational teaching and learning resources. The council’s textbooks and materials are highly respected for their quality and alignment with the national curriculum.
This crackdown by NCERT is aimed at protecting the integrity of its educational resources and ensuring students have access to authentic, high-quality learning materials. The council’s warning serves as a deterrent to publishers trying to profit from NCERT’s intellectual property without permission.
