The National Testing Agency released state-wise topper data alongside the NEET UG 2026 result. Among the top 138 rankers — all of whom scored above 690 marks out of 720 — Maharashtra produced the highest number with 22 candidates, followed by Rajasthan with 18 and Punjab with 11. NTA also reported that 17 state toppers scored 700 marks or above, while 26 state toppers secured more than 690 marks.
The toppers represented 66 different cities across the country, with notable performances from candidates in remote regions including Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. NTA called this a reflection of the nationwide reach and accessibility of NEET UG.

Uplakshya Goyal from Rajasthan secured AIR 3 with a percentile of 99.99985, while Ayush Bhalotia from Bihar claimed AIR 4.
State-wise topper data is critical because state counselling authorities use it for local media and administrative purposes. Students from smaller states and union territories who performed well should ensure their state counselling portals recognise their national rank for state quota seat allotment.
