The Ministry of Education has confirmed that NEET UG will become a computer-based test from 2027, conducted over five to six days at approximately 1,000 centres in 500 cities. Most centres will be government institutions including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas. Around 5 lakh candidates will be accommodated each day.
The government is simultaneously undertaking a complete restructuring of the National Testing Agency — covering personnel, technology infrastructure, and examination processes. Officials told the Indian Express the exercise is expected to conclude before October. The reforms stem from recommendations of the K Radhakrishnan committee formed after a 2024 paper leak. NTA currently has approximately 150 sanctioned posts, all of which fall within the scope of the restructuring.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had first announced the CBT shift on May 15 while confirming the June 21 re-exam date. The formal notification with test cities, shift timings, and operational details will be issued after the NTA revamp is completed.
Why It Matters to Students
- NEET 2027 aspirants must begin practising on computer-based testing interfaces immediately
- The multi-day format eliminates single-day paper distribution — the main vulnerability exploited in the 2026 leak
- The NTA overhaul signals structural reform rather than just a format change
