NEET UG Counselling 2026 is expected to begin shortly, with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) yet to release the official schedule. Meanwhile, MCC has already notified major procedural changes aimed at making the admission process faster and more student-friendly for MBBS and BDS aspirants across the country.
MCC Schedule 2026 Still Awaited
As of 29 July 2026, MCC has not published the official dates on its website, mcc.nic.in. NEET UG Counselling Registration is expected to begin in early August 2026, based on last year’s pattern where complete dates were released in July. The counselling process will reportedly be held in four stages: Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-Up Round, and the Stray Vacancy Round. Candidates are advised to rely only on the official MCC website rather than unverified schedules circulating on social media or messaging apps, since dates and deadlines can shift without prior notice.
MCC Introduces New Rules for Seat Upgrade
In a notification dated 28 July 2026, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare confirmed that MCC has introduced several changes to the medical admission process. The most notable update is that candidates who are allotted a seat and opt for “upgrade” or “willing to upgrade” in later rounds will no longer need to report physically to their allotted college. This change is expected to reduce logistical hassle for thousands of candidates during each counselling round.
NEET UG Counselling Online Resignation and NRI Quota Changes
Two more key reforms have been introduced as part of the seat allotment process. The seat resignation facility has been moved online, removing the need for candidates to visit institutes in person to withdraw their allotted seat. Additionally, candidates applying under the NRI quota can now upload their required documents directly through the counselling portal instead of submitting them physically, saving both time and travel costs for families based abroad. MCC has clarified that these systemic improvements will apply to both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical admissions from the current academic session.
How to Check the Latest Counselling Updates
Candidates should regularly visit mcc.nic.in for the latest schedule, registration link, and choice-filling window. Since seat allotment depends on NEET rank, category, reservation policy, and seat availability, aspirants are advised to keep documents like their scorecard, admit card, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, category certificate, and ID proof ready in advance.
NEET UG Counselling covers 15% All India Quota seats along with 100% seats in AMU, BHU, JMI, and ESIC institutes, while the remaining seats are filled through respective state counselling authorities as per their own timelines. Students appearing for state quota seats, such as those in Tamil Nadu, are advised to track both the central MCC portal and their respective state counselling websites to avoid missing important deadlines.
