The University Grants Commission has issued a fresh advisory directing CBSE-affiliated schools to counsel Class 10 and Class 12 students and their parents against seeking admissions in fake or unrecognised universities. Schools have been asked to display the advisory on notice boards, circulate it at Parent-Teacher Meetings, and upload it on school websites.
The UGC notice instructs students to verify the recognition status of any Higher Education Institution through the UGC website at ugc.ac.in under the “HEIs” section before applying. The advisory specifically warns that self-styled institutions operating without UGC recognition have been targeting freshly passed Class 12 students during the peak admission season. Students are strongly advised to apply only to UGC-recognised institutions.
This warning is particularly relevant during the current admission cycle when lakhs of students are making decisions about undergraduate enrolment. Given the ongoing CUET UG result wait, some students may feel pressured to accept admissions from non-UGC entities. The advisory urges both schools and students to take proper time to verify institutions before paying any admission fees.
