West Bengal study grant for women: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, on Monday, announced that the Cabinet has approved the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme, under which monetary assistance of Rs 50,000 will be provided to unmarried women pursuing higher education over a period of three years.

This structure brings the total assistance to Rs 50,000 across the three-year period.
When Will the Scheme Be Implemented?
According to the Chief Minister, the scheme will be implemented across the state from January 2027, giving the state administration a few months to set up the necessary disbursement infrastructure before rollout.

Why This Matters?
The Bhagini Nivedita Scheme represents a significant financial support measure aimed at easing the cost burden of higher education for unmarried women across West Bengal, potentially encouraging greater participation in degree-level education among young women in the state. Combined with the large-scale recruitment announcements and enhanced welfare payouts for sanitation workers and SC/ST hostel students, these measures collectively signal a broader push by the state government toward education accessibility, employment generation, and social welfare ahead of the scheme’s planned rollout in January 2027.
