IIT Kharagpur NALSAR academic engagement has been steadily growing, with faculty from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad, participating in law and governance events hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur’s legal education wing over the past year. The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSoIPL) at IIT Kharagpur, the first law school within the IIT system, has repeatedly drawn on IIT Kharagpur NALSAR expertise for its research colloquiums and policy discussions, reflecting a growing academic bridge between a leading technical institute and one of India’s top national law universities.

At RGSoIPL’s 7th Research Colloquium, held from 24 to 26 October 2025 under the theme “Harmonising Doctrine and Data,” a NALSAR professor joined a plenary session titled “Qualitative Study of Judicial Patterns” alongside a fellow academic from Panjab University. The discussion focused on blending interpretive legal analysis with measurable research indicators, a theme central to the empirical legal scholarship movement now gaining traction in Indian law schools. The three-day colloquium brought together more than 70 participants and nearly 50 research papers spanning artificial intelligence, environmental law, and constitutional rights.
Engagement Through the Public Policy and Governance Centre
Beyond the research colloquium, IIT Kharagpur NALSAR faculty have also featured in discussions hosted by IIT Kharagpur’s Centre of Excellence in Public Policy Law and Governance (CoEPPLG). A NALSAR professor led a session on “Ethical and Inclusive Governance in the Digital Age” at the centre on 27 October 2025, part of an ongoing series that brings together legal scholars and public policy experts to examine emerging governance questions at the intersection of technology and law.
